About

The Bitter Shed was born from the same place the work gets done — not in a boardroom or studio, but in a shed at the edge of the farm.

Weathered wood. Worn floorboards. Tools lined up with purpose — not for show, but for use. The shed holds grit, sweat and persistence. That’s the spirit behind what we make.

The Bitter Shed isn’t where the products are made — it’s where the idea was born. The shed is the spirit behind the work: hands-on, honest and unfancy in the best way.

This brand grew from real life at Lady Cone Hop Yard, our women-run farm in Branchton, Ontario. Sun-touched skin. Dirt under our nails. Cuts on fingers, bruises on shins and sore muscles at the end of the day. Hops still need tending. Harvests don’t wait. Animals still need feeding. The weather changes the plan. The seasons decide what grows. And some days, you just get on with it.

Growing hops alongside vegetables, herbs, flowers and botanicals made us look differently at what we were already harvesting. Hops. Lavender. Calendula. Yarrow. Chamomile. Lemon balm. Rosemary. Plants with a long history of use — and a place beyond the garden.

From there, skin and body care became a natural extension of the work.

Practical. Purposeful. Made for real life.

For farmers and tradespeople. First responders and healthcare workers. Everyday gardeners. People raising families, working with their hands and carrying full days.

The farm is cared for by three women working side by side, each bringing her own skills to the work. The Bitter Shed is created by Sarah — farmer, Certified Natural Skincare Maker and Certified Aromatherapist L1 — bringing together thoughtful formulation, farm-grown botanicals and real-life experience.

Every product has a purpose. Every ingredient earns its place.

We grow what we can, with what the weather and seasons allow. We grow with organic intentions, harvest by hand and slowly infuse botanicals into oils. We choose essential oils for more than scent and work with ingredients like tallow, raw honey and beeswax because of what they bring to a formula — not because they are trendy.

No polished perfection. No complicated routines.

Just thoughtfully made skin, body and recovery care for people who show up, do the work and keep going.

Made for skin that does the hard work.
